As you well know, I am not a supporter of succumbing to temporary trends, and I could write at length about the advantages of the classic style. Thanks to your comments, I know that there is an increasing number of people who have a similar approach. We don't want to blindly follow something that is constantly changing and compels us to participate in a never-ending pursuit. Recently, denying fashion has become… fashionable, and the flowering of the idea of minimalism only reassures us that we're heading the right way. Do we still need fashion if we were able to resist consumption habits? And if yes, then why?

1. While searching for information about fashion, we are necessarily doomed to a true lesson in history. We willingly read biographies of great fashion icons, whose lives are always marked by historical events (for example, I recommend "The Secret of Chanel No. 5: The Intimate History of the World's Most Famous Perfume"). While watching our favourite costume films ("Braveheart," "Pride and Prejudice," "Testament of Youth" with the talented Alicia Vikander in the leading role), we see how the characters’ garments change together with the beginning of the next epoch. When the French Revolution turned the social ladder upside down, gigantic wigs and attires worn at the royal courts ceased to be chosen so eagerly. When women started their fight for emancipation, their dresses were becoming increasingly shorter decade by decade, and the shadow of the Second World War over Europe eliminated vibrant colours and any sumptuousness whatsoever from fashion. The fashion prevailing at a given moment in history allows us to learn really a lot about the specificity of the society.

Gdy rewolucja francuska wywróciła do góry nogami drabinę społeczną, olbrzymie peruki i dworskie stroje zaczęto nosić mniej chętnie.

2. Fashion is everywhere – it is present in every area of life, and ignoring it will become our flaw sooner of later. Regardless of where we work, being familiar with the current trends will be helpful in a better execution of tasks. As an example that the topic of fashion is becoming more widespread and that it is difficult to turn a blind eye to it, I will describe one episode connected with the blog. A certain brand producing preserves offered me collaboration. At first, I was even interested, and I already started testing a new recipe with the use of tomato purée to see whether the product is really worth recommending. However, it turned out that the advertiser was not interested in the testing of his product…he wanted me to prepare a couple of "Look of the Day" posts and, as an inspiration, he wanted me to use their… mayonnaise (???). I made a delicate suggestion that it's not the best idea, but the most vital thing for the advertiser was to present the product in the "context of fashion," as it guarantees the best effects. As you might have guessed, the collaboration didn't work out.

 3. The interest in fashion improves our sense of aesthetics. Observation is the best way of learning; therefore, individuals who have been following the changing trends in architecture, art, photography, or even gastronomy for years possess a developed sense of taste and care for the aesthetics around them. A person for whom fashion is important (even if they resist it) not only does look better but also knows how to decorate her or his home so that it is pleasant to the eye as well as eagerly changes the surroundings so that it lives up to the visual standards. Of course, there exist different tastes – some love impressionists, whereas others consider them bores and are fascinated by Picasso, Rousseau, or Chagall – but each of the mentioned artists was undeniably prominent. However, in order to spot the difference, we have to familiarise ourselves with them first.
