I’ve got a weak spot for movies which take place in beautiful sweltering places, and whose scenography and costumes show the ambiance of the far south well. The genre doesn’t matter then – it can be an epic melodrama like “The English Patient”, a romance story from “Out of Africa”, adventure “Indiana Jones” or “Octopussy” from the agent 007 saga.    When the Polish streets are taken over by a heat wave, the above titles may be useful not only as an evening entertainment. The so-called “safari style” has its perfect place in Hollywood productions and it is the most practical, yet elegant, face of summer fashion.

The functionality of safari style is a result of its history – in accordance with its name, it comes from Africa, which in the 19th and 20th centuries became a fashionable destination of the adventurous European elite. We shouldn’t have any positive association with it – its precursors would spark common revulsion, but with the course of years, the practicality of safari style was appreciated not only by poachers and colonisers.

The identification mark is the sandy and desert colour palette – sandy beiges, white, browns, or mellow khaki hues. In Africa, clothes were supposed to protect against the sun, wind, and have light construction. Thus, it shouldn’t surprise us that suit jackets have no lining and come with large pockets that can store binoculars ;). My today’s outfit is a very subtle reference to safari style – it wouldn’t be practical in the Sahara, but at the beach in Rewa – of course.

From this set, I highly recommend shorts – they fit ideally and also come in denim colour. This month, you can buy them at a lower price (similarly to this bathing suit and sunglasses), as I’ve got a discount on all non-discounted products at NA-KD. Use the code “MLEXX15” to get a 15% discount.
